George Bernard Shaw
How do you remain indifferent to Rome? Indifferent to the roman-way and its contradictions? Grattachecca vendors from Sri Lanka in the kiosks along Lungotevere, spritz-sipping vitelloni eyeing at Nordic beauties by the Pantheon, the lazy pizzardoni (mock-name for local police) strolling along the Spanish Steps holding block of fines, pretending to work. Noisy crowds of tattooed pilgrims wandering about baroque monuments. Empty ice cream paper cups on cobblestones. Ancient ruins and modern litters.
